The use of low carbon steel is limited due to its low strength. The strength of the carbon steel can be greatly improved by properly increasing the manganese content in the NM450 steel grade carbon steel and adding some alloy elements such as vanadium, titanium and niobium. If the carbon content in the carbon steel is reduced and a small amount of aluminum, boron and carbide forming elements are added, the ultra-low carbon bainite can be obtained, NM450 steel grade which has high strength and good plasticity and toughness.

Nickel element is mainly used to form and stabilize the austenite structure, so that the NM450 steel grade steel has good mechanical properties, corrosion resistance and process performance. Molybdenum can quickly passivate stainless acid-resistant steel, and improve the corrosion resistance to solutions containing chloride ions and other non-oxidizing media. Titanium and niobium are usually used to fix the carbon in alloy steel and make it generate stable carbides to reduce the harmful effect of carbon on the corrosion resistance of alloy steel.

NM450 steel grade, Grade P295GH chemical composition under EN10028-2:2003 is displayed as follows. Chemical composition (C: 0.08 to 0.20; Cr: ≤0.30; Si: ≤0.40; Cu: ≤0.30;Mn: 0.90 to 1.50; Mo: ≤0.08;P: ≤0.025; Nb: ≤0.020;S: ≤0.015; Ni: ≤0.30;Al: ≤0.020; Ti: 0.03; N: ≤0.012; Vi: ≤0.02). The yield Strength MPa (min) of P295GH steel plate with thickness less than 16mm is 295MPa, and the tensile strength is 460-580MPa.
